Churros - the sweet taste of Spain

Whoever visits the Alicante region, the Costa Blanca coast, will sooner or later encounter one of the most popular Spanish delicacies – churros. At first glance, they look like elongated fried sticks with a golden crispy crust, but their charm lies above all in their simplicity and traditional production.

Churros dough is made from only a few basic ingredients – water, wheat flour, a pinch of salt and sometimes a small amount of oil. The dough is then pressed into boiling oil using a special press, where it acquires its typical ridged shape and golden color. After frying, the churros are coated in sugar, or in a mixture of sugar and cinnamon.

In Spain, they are sold mainly in specialized stands and cafes. Locals often enjoy them for breakfast or as an afternoon snack. They are usually served with thick hot chocolate, in which they are dipped. In some regions, you can also come across a larger variant called "porras", which is fluffier inside.

Today, modern pastry shops also offer various flavors and toppings. Popular are churros with chocolate, vanilla or caramel filling, or with white chocolate coating. Churros with pistachio, nougat or strawberry flavors are also gaining more and more popularity. In touristic places on the Costa Blanca, they are often sold in practical paper cones that you can take with you to the promenade or to the sea.

It is gastronomic experiences like these that create the unique atmosphere of life on the Spanish coast. It is therefore no surprise that more and more Czechs are looking for real estate in Spain, especially around Alicante. The idea of a morning walk for fresh churros, a coffee on a sunny terrace and a view of the sea is for many people a symbol of the dream Mediterranean life.

Popular locations such as Torrevieja, Orihuela Costa, Guardamar del Segura or Ciudad Quesada offer not only beautiful beaches and a pleasant climate, but also a wide range of apartments, houses and villas suitable both for own living and as investments.

The next time you smell freshly fried churros, you might realize it's not just about sweetness. It is part of Spanish culture, lifestyle and everyday comfort that you can enjoy all year round in your own home not only on the Costa Blanca.....
